We’ve been impressed today by the popularity of chess in Chile amongst grade school-aged children. Well, I should say, in Santiago.
I used to discount chess a more popular game amongst those of another generation, but not so in Santiago. If one was to go see the many universities across the city one would find many children carrying their chess set around waiting for break time to take out the board and pieces and battle against their friends.
This is amongst those who could be abusing their hand held video games, or the latest card battling game, or soccer! But no, these are of a new kind of generation; one that chooses the chess set rather than the ball. This could be a trend.
